Silky Mouse Little Desert Nature Lodge

Parks Victoria and the Silky Experience

Parks Victoria gets a silky experience at Little Desert Nature Lodge.

Kylie Trott, Executive Director Regional Victoria, Parks Victoria, snapped this silky mouse (Pseudomys apodemoides) during our Rewilding the Desert initiatives’ Spring monitoring program.  Kylie, along with Sally Lewis, Gavan Mathieson and Zoe Wilkinson visited our initiative to get firsthand experience of our work.

The silky mouse was captured in one of our humane monitoring traps. After being weighed, measured and recorded she was released back into her habitat, generously giving a last-minute photo opportunity before whisking away into the undergrowth. The silky mouse is considered Near Threatened in Victoria, and our monitoring program is playing an important role in documenting its range and population in the Little Desert.

Parks Victoria are a key partner in the Rewilding the Desert initiative, as the manager of Little Desert National Park. Little Desert Nature Lodge lies next door to Little Desert National Park.
